Damon and Loreta from the SYM team joined around 50 industry professionals earlier this month for a pre-season briefing on the Ownership and Operation of Superyachts presented by Sarnia Yachts at the AC Hotel Ambassadeur in the heart of Juan Les Pins.

Aimed at captains and senior crew, the event was an opportunity to bring not only crew but a range of yachting representatives up to speed on recent industry changes.

The briefing began with the hot topic of crew social security and went on to cover EU VAT pitfalls and EU changes to charter requirements.

After the break, the conference resumed and Sarnia distributed crew handbooks for commercial and private yachts. These useful guides give additional guidance to accompany Sarnia’s Crew employment agreements. Sarnia then announced that they will be launching their own pension plan scheme in the coming weeks.

Guest speaker Edouard Henny, Consultant Marine Surveyor at Cayman Islands Shipping Registry was present and spoke to the group and answered about yacht arrest and detention.

The event finished with a Q&A session utilising an app-based platform to enable crew to ask anonymous questions to a panel of speakers.

This was followed by the opportunity to meet a number of members of the Sarnia team during post event drinks.
