Consistent with our ongoing effort to ensure all SYM Captains obtain the latest and most relevant training we were delighted to host the first SYM/ RINA seminar in Golfe Juan at the end of an incredibly busy season. The seminar was fully supported by 3 members of the RINA team who were invited to share the latest news regarding Class and Statutory rules. The 1-day seminar was aimed at Captains within the SYM and Sunseeker fleet and was attended by more than 25 captains keen to expand their understanding of the RINA class requirements. Georgio Gallo the RINA surveyor for our region lead the forum along with his colleagues Enrico Ursomando and Sean Thomas. After meeting at the SYM offices for a breakfast the attendees headed next door to the conference room at the Capitainerie of Port Camille Rayon to begin the seminar. The course covered the following aspects:

· An Introduction to Class & Statutory Rules

· An update on what to expect during Port State Control

· Yacht Insurance and Class: Compliance and Relationships

· Memorandum of Understanding in PSC with a focus on Paris MoU

· Reasons why PSC stops yachts: Deficiencies and Detention

For lunch, a delicious middle eastern buffet was prepared by chef Ruth from Ruth Williams Traiteur and served at the SYM office. Head of compliance Linda Kallas said "Every year the SYM fleet face new challenges in the ever-changing regulatory world so we thought it would be a great opportunity to get everyone together to share their knowledge and experience in an informal environment. We would like to thank the attending Captains and of course RINA for their initiative in helping put on this course which we believe was invaluable"
